Uffington Church of England Primary School

Preparing for the future; living life in all its fullness

School Sport

The school has a particularly strong reputation for Sport and holds the Gold Sports Mark for its commitment to physical activity.

We provide a variety of sporting activities and give the children the opportunity to participate in friendly competition; to that end, we organise intra-school competitions and compete against other schools at athletics, cross country running, cricket, football, tag rugby, lacrosse, netball and rounders.

School teams have been highly successful at local, county and regional level in Netball, Rugby, Cricket, and Pop Lacrosse and, in recent years, the school has competed in the English Schools Swimming Association national finals in Sheffield.

I love PE because our teachers are really good at sport and you have a good opportunity to play in a team.

Although we are a small school with limited facilities, we experience high levels of success in local and county sporting events and have competed at regional and national level in swimming and rugby.

SWIMMING

Swimming lessons take place on Friday mornings. The children are taken to the swimming pool on Drift Road by coach. The children are taught in groups according to ability.

We ask parents to contribute towards the cost of transport and admission to the swimming pool (tuition costs are covered by the Somes Trust).

Infant children swim for one term (10 weeks) each year. Junior children alternate a term of swimming with a term of Gym / Dance which takes place at the Bluecoat Primary School in Stamford. This gives the children the opportunity to use PE apparatus which is not available at Uffington School due to lack of space.
